      Bequests

Joe and Anna have been faithful supporters of The Salvation Army. They believe it is important to support and encourage The Salvation Army's mission.

Joe: Several years ago, Anna and I decided to become part of The Salvation Army. We believe that The Salvation Army is truly helping others. We think that it is important to partner with them to make a difference. For that reason, Anna and I have made gifts over the years to help others.

Anna: We wanted to do more than to just make gifts. Joe and I have been careful over the years and have accumulated some resources. We plan to be generous with family, but we also have the ability to be generous with charity.

After talking it over, we decided to leave a bequest in our will. Our attorney took the simple language available from The Salvation Army and included a nice bequest. We are delighted that we will be helping others through The Salvation Army.

You also may want to make it easy and convenient to have a bequest included in your will. The language below shows how a bequest can very easily be included in your will.

You might find it helpful to select the "print" button on the top of your screen and print this page. You may feel free to give this page to your attorney. If he or she has any questions, please have them contact your local Planned Giving Director or Represetative at plannedgiving@use.salvationarmy.org.

You can help perpetuate the work of the Salvation Army in your community by remembering the Army in your will.

Legal documents such as Wills should always be prepared by attorneys. The Salvation Army submits these sample bequest forms for the information of donors and friends - and especially for the guidance of attorneys preparing Wills containing bequests for The Salvation Army.

The legal title of the Salvation Army is: The Salvation Army, a religious and charitable organization with principal offices at 440 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994.

Please note that the above designation is included in the following methods of giving to The Salvation Army through your Will. This refers to the address of our Eastern Territorial Headquarters. For guidance on how to designate your bequest for the benefit of our operations at the location of your choice, use the request for further information form. The planned giving director will respond to any other questions you or your attorney may have.

Please note: The name and image above is representative of a typical donor and may or may not be an actual donor to our organization. Since the charitable purpose of your bequest may be different from this person, you may want to contact us to discuss a bequest.

Bequest of Residuary Estate:
"All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated, which I may own or have the right to dispose of at the time of my decease, I give, devise, and bequeath to The Salvation Army, a religious and charitable organization with principal offices at 440 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994," the sum of $________, and/or the securities or other property described herein, namely ________________for use in ________________ to be used for _________________ or for the benefit of ________________."

Bequest of Percentage of Residuary Estate:
"All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated, which I may own or have the right to dispose of at the time of my decease, I give, devise, and bequeath as follows: (1) To The Salvation Army, a religious and charitable organization with principal offices at 440 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994," ________ percent, to be for use in ________________ to be used for______________ or for the benefit of ________________."

Contingent Bequest:
"In the case of the failure or lapse of any legacy or devise herein such that the property so bequeathed or devised would otherwise pass by intestacy (absence of a Will), I give, devise, bequeath any such failed or lapsed legacy or devise to The Salvation Army, a religious and charitable organization with principal offices at 440 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994, for use in _________________________ to be used for ___________________ or for the benefit of ____________."

Changing need:
No one can anticipate the changes that may occur at The Salvation Army in the coming years. When drafting a bequest having a restricted purpose - and to ensure that it will always be of maximum use to The Salvation Army when it may no longer be needed for the express purpose designated - it is helpful to add an "alternative use" clause. Such a clause might read as follows:
"If at any time, at the discretion of the Trustees, this bequest shall no longer be necessary for the stated purposes, the Trustees shall have the authority to designate its use for another purpose that closely carries out my original intention."

You may print a Bequest tri-fold brochure. Voice of a Legacy or Will Your Will be Known.
